This apple crumble is perfect as a no fuss, ok-to-be messy dessert. I also ran out of flour so I blitzed up some rolled oats instead to make into oat flour.
Ingredients ~ 6 servings
- 5 granny smith apples, peeled and chopped into cubes
- 1 cup water
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 3 tbsp lemon juice
- 2 tsp nutmeg powder
- 2 tsp cinnamon powder
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 6 tbsp oat flour (optional: swap for regular flour)
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/4 cup vegan butter (I used Nuttelex)
Method
1. Preheat the oven to 200C.
2. In a saucepan on medium heat add the apples, nutmeg powder, cinnamon powder, water, sugar and lemon juice. Simmer for 10-15 minutes. Drain and set aside.
3. In a mixing bowl make the crumble mixture by adding the rolled oats, oat flour, vegan butter and salt. Mix well to combine. Optional to add a sprinkle of sugar.
4. In a baking dish put in the apple mixture in an even layer and then the crumble mixture on top.
5. Bake for 35-45 minutes depending on how crispy you want the crumble to be.
6. Serve with ice cream!
